Hola, My name is Alissa Joy Dowsett. I'm 21 years old, and live in Des Moines, IA. I'm originally from Moline, Illinois. Me and my family moved to Des Moines, IA when I was five. I graduated high school in 09'. I was planning on going to our local community college but decided I wasn't ready and didn't know what I wanted to do anymore. So I took a year off and then that year became a couple years. I'm still unsure about college. I would like to go to college someday, maybe when I get back from Kenya? But It's still a big mystery to me. I know whatever God plans for me is the best. I work at a retirement home as a server. I've worked there since I was seventeen. I love every minute it. Elderly people hold such a special place in my heart.

I have a lot of things I like, enjoy. I love to hangout with friends, sing, watch old movies, golf, tennis, going out, laughing, making new friends, deep talks, family, zak, anything vintage, shopping, photography, elderly folk. I love it when people use the word gal. My dog is my life, my best friend. I can be quite shy at times but I love meeting new people. 

I have never been on a mission trip before. This is a whole new experience for me. I'm extremely excited and nervous all at once. I've never even been on a plane before. Let alone been away for four months. I'm nervous to leave my family, my dog, and friends. So this is all new to me. These past couple of years of my life have definetly been a struggle and eye-opening. God has definitely opened up my heart and lead me down a new path. Which lead me to apply here. I'm more than ready to experience what God wants me to. I just want people to know how much God has blessed me with this opportunity to live out His word. I want to show His love. I feel that this time in Kenya Is really going to show me who God wants me to be and what I'm going to be doing with my life. I'm very excited to meet everyone and hopefully make some new friendships.
